About the job
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the development of innovative, scalable, and secure healthcare technology solutions. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across key projects, work with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful products, and mentor engineers to ensure the highest technical standards are met. You will play a key role in advancing our mission to improve patient care and outcomes through technology.
What you’ll do
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Architect, design, and lead the development of scalable, high-performance systems using event-driven architectures (e.g., Apache Kafka, Airflow, Flink) and distributed systems.
- Drive technical vision and roadmaps for complex products, balancing business goals, technical tradeoffs, and long-term scalability.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering teams (5+ engineers), fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Champion best practices in system design, code quality, CI/CD pipelines, and observability (e.g., DataDog, Kibana).
System Design & Execution
- Own end-to-end delivery of mission-critical products, from concept to deployment, including real-time data pipelines, microservices, and customer-facing applications.
- Optimize system performance (e.g., API latency reduction, error rate minimization) through distributed caching, code refactoring, and infrastructure improvements.
- Design fault-tolerant, cloud-native solutions (AWS, Kubernetes) with a focus on resilience, cost efficiency, and scalability.
- Lead migration/modernization efforts (e.g., legacy system rewrites, data lake/warehouse implementations) while ensuring seamless customer transitions.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions, advocating for sustainable and innovative approaches.
- Drive R&D initiatives to prototype and validate new technologies (e.g., AI/ML integration, real-time analytics).
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences, ensuring alignment across teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years in technical leadership roles (e.g., Tech Lead, Principal Engineer).
- Proficiency in Python, Java, Scala, JavaScript and modern frameworks.
- Mastery of event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis), distributed systems, and cloud platforms (AWS, Kubernetes).
- Strong background in data engineering (Spark, Glue, Athena) and database design (SQL, NoSQL, DynamoDB).
- Demonstrated success in optimizing performance (latency, error rates) and reducing infrastructure costs (AWS).
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead cross-functional teams, and deliver award-winning products (e.g., CODiE Award).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills; ability to navigate ambiguity and drive consensus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, ad-tech, or regulated industries.
- Familiarity with real-time analytics, AI/ML integration, or genomic data pipelines (e.g., Illumina secondary analysis).
- Track record of innovation in config-driven systems, real-time reporting, or streaming data products.
Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: Starting at $195k annually, based on factors such as experience, skills, location, company needs, and market demands.
- Benefits: We believe great humans deserve great benefits! At Vynca, you’ll enjoy medical, dental, and vision insurance, income protection, PTO, company holidays, a 401k plan, and access to various wellness benefits.
